Should not have said that....

Have you ever caught yourself saying something that your parents used to say to you? One morning, my daughter amused me by sarcastically thanking me for waking her at 5am.

She was unreasonably crabby and snapping at everyone. When I finally put my foot down and asked her why she was acting this way, she immediately said she didn’t get enough sleep because my coffee grinder woke her.

I just stared at her and asked is that the only reason she is upset. She replied, “Yes. You do that every day. You wake up and you grind your coffee and wake EVERYONE IN THE HOUSE.” As you can imagine the enormous eye roll that I gave because I had been up since 3am working out, meditating and reading.

My words to her were ones I thought I would never say out loud. “Well, if you went to bed earlier and woke up earlier you would get more done. Quit being lazy and putting all the blame on me. Where’s your accountability.” I stopped and reflected.

She looked at me. Her eyebrows pointed inward. She started to show her teeth and her canines started to grow. Her breathing quickened and there was this sound….oh the sound. The noise that came from her was one that I would imagine a grizzly bear would sound like if it just found its next meal…You!

Needless to say, I now grind my coffee before I lay down for bed. Everything is now prepared in advance to avoid any careless noise in the morning that would wake my Queen and Princesses. The Prince can sleep through anything

Moral of this story, don’t wake up your 12 year old daughter before 8am. Just kidding, when they talk back like she did you wake them at 4am and have them workout with you.
