My Truth...

“The truth is always quiet. It’s the LIES that are loud.”
These words were spoken in the movie “Jesus Revolution”. This statement I heard caused me to pause the movie and write down the quote. As I pondered the words, they really spoke to me and hit home. The statement was very much my “truth”.
We live in a society today that if you go against the social narrative you can get shouted down by many. Or worse yet, they can “cancel” you. You see it on the mainstream media or your favorite social media pages. People screaming at one another trying to prove their point as the wedge is only driven deeper.
Remember the “silent majority?” Back in the 2020 election, these were supposed to be the people who never spoke up publicly and really only spoke “their” truth in private, among friends.
As the words, “The truth is always quiet. It’s the LIES that are loud” resonated with me I made a pact to begin speaking my truth a little louder than I had been known to. My decision to be more vocal about this is to begin with the products that I purchase going forward. Starting this way will make sure that my money is going to the people that align with my values and ethics.
The day after this revelation I got to work. The first thing I did was I cancelled my Disney +, Hulu and ESPN Plus subscriptions. The following day I cancelled season tickets to Nashville SC and Houston Dynamo MLS clubs. I jumped in to learn a little more on where the products I consumed came from and where can I purchase closer to home. When I was done, I felt a bit relieved but knew there was more work to do.
It wasn’t that I was trying to save money, but it was a decision made based on culture. The fact that I no longer wish to give money to a corporation that I doesn’t align with my values. The narrative pushed on my children is one that I don’t believe in.
First, I have four children ranging the ages of 5 to 15. They watch quite a bit of Disney and I watch a lot of sports, when I watch TV. The narrative that Disney pushes on children is definitely one that I do not agree with as it doesn’t mesh with my faith. If you find that you do not agree with my position, I would implore you to do some research yourself. If you still don’t agree after ample research please know that I don’t care. This is what’s best for my family.
Second, when it comes to canceling my season tickets to the MLS teams it was based on the celebration of things that do not align with my faith. We are encouraged to cheer and celebrate people who I believe to be sinful in nature. I will no longer purchase tickets to these clubs or any other that pushes a narrative that does not align with me.
Now, before you get angry with me please know I don’t care if you think I am wrong. You will not have any influence over me going forward. Almost everyone of my friends and peers feel the same way and I am pretty sure that they don’t care either. They may not stop supportIng the businesses and teams as I do….and they don’t have to stop. I am not proposing a boycott of these business. They just won’t see another penny from me.
No matter what celebrity, Garth Brooks, Jack White or Charles Barkley has to say on the subject. They no longer have any influence over me. Don’t really care what any politician thinks as none of them have done nothing for me. I may be called names from some but I know what is true in my heart. All that really matters is how I represent my Creator.
