Missing My Tee Time at The Masters

As my sleep was interrupted, I realized I was late for my tee time at my first Masters. After waking my long-time friend and caddie we rushed to find the marshall to see where I was supposed to be. It was the response from the marshall that stunned me.

"You were supposed to be at the 20th tee box three minutes ago. Get your ass moving." As he pointed in the direction of my assigned tee box, David and I looked at each other with confusion and started our journey. Many fans we passed cheered us on and told us we were going in the right direction. The journey was long, but we finally saw the 20th tee box.

The only problem was that you had to journey through a deep sand trap and climb it side to reach the tee box. We entered the trap and quickly realized that the sand was deep and difficult to navigate. As I tried to climb the side of the trap my footing wouldn't hold and I slipped deeper into the desert abyss. The "starter" on the box began counting down and said if I didn't get up there I would be "DISQUALIFIED". My eyes were huge and I tried harder than ever......

Then I woke out of my nightmare and started my day.

As I pondered my dream, I realized that it was a metaphor for my business. Dreams and aspirations of building a great company.

For me, the dream represents my journey in my business. After putting in years of work and training the company was one that industry would have to deal with. The game is the same for each of us and we must all deal with hurdles (or sand traps) in our own way. Play the game well and you are shooting par. Play focused and accurate, you're under par. Play like shit....you missed the cut and go home miss out on a pay day.

Final thoughts. What are you doing to make yourself better? What skills are you learning to create opportunities? You never know when an opportunity will arise, just make sure you have the skill to rip it down the middle.
