Happy Anniversary

Last week I celebrated my fifth anniversary of being in business. When I was younger I used to hear that running a business for five years or more is difficult to do. That is one of the only things that my family had expressed to me when I was you that actually turned out to be correct.

I used to hear different things that would discourage me and keep me at a “9 to 5” job. I do know that my family and most of my friends intentions were meant to help, however, the reality is that way of thinking can only hold us back.

Starting a business is an easy thing to do. Running and making a living from your business is the difficult part. The ups and downs, the ebbs and flows can really punch someone in the gut when sales are slow and give a false sense of “you made it” when things are going well.

It is my thought that if you can maintain forward thinking and implement activity everyday that you can overcome any issue that may come up. Life comes at you hard sometimes and really kick you when you’re down. You must keep going.

This message is for those people that have an idea and don’t let it see the light of day. If you have an idea and you believe in yourself work each day on the idea and give it some traction. Stop watching tv or going out with friends. Spend time working on your idea and breathe life into it.

A quote that I once heard, “Do you know where the worlds great ideas are found? In the cemetery. They die with those who never believed in them strong enough to give them life.”

Let that sink in.

Business is hard. If you fail, you get back up and you try again. You learn from your mistakes and put together a better plan. When you continue to work the plan and combine it with activity you will see fruits from your effort.

The important thing is to never give up. If you believe in yourself and are consistent with your actions you can overcome the challenges. Difficulties will emerge from time to time but you must stay the course.

However, if you give up on your dreams and ideas you will live the rest of your life in regret and ponder ‘what might have been.’

So if you have an idea that you believe in and think that it is a viable business idea give it breath. Work the idea and let it see the light of day. Make it better and the world will let you know if “its got legs.”

All the best,
