Are You a Hunter?

In my office, there is a black and white print that is strategically placed directly in front of me. The print reminds me of my daily duties and puts me in the right frame of mind to seize the day.

The prints speaks to me. It says things like,

“Attack”

“Keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel”

“Stay hungry”

“Be the hunter, not the hunted”

“Eat when its time to eat”

The print is of a wolf hunting in weather (appears to be snowing). The caption above the wolf’s head reads “I AM COMING FOR EVERYTHING THEY SAID I COULDN’T HAVE.” The eyes of the wolf are black and the mouth is agape. It is hungry and it is hunting for its next meal.

Wolves typically travels in packs, however, this one is alone. Alone with its thoughts and the responsibility for its food falls solely on its shoulders. This wolf will either eat or will be eaten.

This wolf reminds me that the path to greatness is doing the hard stuff. Sometimes you will be alone with your thoughts and the fate of the company falls on your shoulders. This print takes me to a dark place and gets me focused.

When a moment of inspiration is needed, I stare into its dark eyes. Wonder what it is looking at. It knows what it must do in order to survive. How it must get the job done.

Wolves hunt so they can survive and if they don’t … they die. It is parallel to the business world. We have to hunt for our next customer. It is a continuous pursuit of the next meal. What would ultimately happen if you own a business and do not hunt for your next client? Someone else will get there or worse … you will be eaten.

It is good to run with a pack of like minded people like wolves do. They can help you where you may lack the skill. You can help them where they lack in skills. If you have this group to work with and you work well together, you will all eat.

If you don’t run with a pack and you operate alone, you must get dirty. You must identify with the wolf and dig deep to achieve what your dreams and goals are.

Which are you? The hunter or the hunted.”
