As I do every morning, I start with going over what is in my planner.
Calls to make….check
People to see….check
Quotes due….check
Dryer vent cleaning….WTF???
There it was in my planner. 9 to 9:30am, someone was coming to clean the dryer vent. Everyone was going to gone today and I was left to be there for a stranger to come in and take care of our dryer vent. This was annoying hinderance in my schedule that required me to be out of my normal routine today.
I moved things around so I could be available for the person. My laptop open at the kitchen table and glass of water in hand I worked as I waited.
9:15 the clock read. Irritation came over me as I rescheduled a couple of things to be available. Thoughts of reaching out to the property manager came up, but I thought that I will give them the full 30 minutes allotted for the service to take place.
A commercial van rolls into the neighborhood and I look at the clock….9:25.
The doorbell rings, followed by a knock at the door. Gripping the handle, I twist and pull open. There was a young man in his mid 20’s staring back at me.
“I’m ‘so and so’, here to clean your dryer vent.” Said the person standing outside.
“You’re 26 minutes late!” I replied
With a half smile and inward brow, the young man respond with a shrug and “Oh well!”
(At this point, he realized that he messed up.)
He motioned toward coming into my home and I replied, “Make another f@(king appointment!” Then shut the door on him.
Now if the man replied with an apology, I would have my dryer vent cleaned out right now. However, why respond with a shrug and “Oh well!”?
Has no one ever called him on his bullshit? Is this really the state of customer service today?
Let me ask…was I out of line?
