10,000 Hours

Have you ever heard the saying that it takes 10,000 hours of study to master something? Whatever it is, in order to be the best at something, you must spend 10,000 hours on it to be considered an expert.
Spending one hour a day for 10,000 straight days. That is the equivalent to spending 27+ years of daily study for one hour to be the best in your chosen field. If you spent 8 hours/day studying your field you could be one of the best in 3 years and 4 months.
How much different would your life look if you continued to train as if you were an athlete? I come from the opinion that sales people should train in sales and product knowledge daily. If sales reps did this they would offer more value to employers and their clients.
As many of you know I own a cabinet company. Each day, our team studies sales techniques from a man I consider to be one of the best sales people on the planet, Grant Cardone. Many of the things the team learns they already know. We just ask them to implement whatever they learn into daily practice.
When I first introduced the training to the team it was met pessimism that they have to do more work. Except when they went through the training and it started to work for them they paid more attention to the modules and actually learned something.
I implore you, the reader, to take inventory of your skills and make the necessary changes in your life so you are leader in your industry. You may have spent years in your chosen field already, however, is there something missing in your skill set?
It is important to take inventory of your talents/skills every couple of months to see where you can be better. If you are honest with yourself you can really see areas of your life you can improve on. Take the necessary steps to take action and be accountable for your own success.
Take responsibility for your life. Train in the skills that you are lacking and brush up on the skills that you are strong in. Don’t assume that you will miraculously learn the skills necessary to win at the game of life.
